With extensive experience as a New York healthcare professional, Denise Hammel serves as Hudson Valley Hospice’s palliative care director. Reporting on quality metrics, she undertakes the analysis of patient volume and census changes. These have a direct impact on aspects of operations such as staffing levels, expenses, and revenue. Overseeing the work of nurse practitioners, physicians, and social workers, Denise Hammel has helped steadily grow the operations.
Earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Chamberlain University in Chicago, Ms. Hammel gained early experience as a licensed practical nurse. Based in Pawling, New York, she administered treatment and medications to more than three dozen patients, undertaking charting and providing physicians with assistance on visits. She subsequently held a nurse manager role with Hearthstone Alzheimers Care in White Plains, ensuring the efficient deployment of personal care services to residents with dementia.
Ms. Hammel maintains patient review instrument (PRI) certification. She is working in tandem with a colleague who is screen-certified in providing evaluative services that place patients in nursing home settings. An avid cyclist, she has traversed New York State’s rail trail and explored the area surrounding Lake Champlain in Vermont.
